Residents in Churchill, Manitoba, should prepare for periods of snow and dangerous cold starting tonight, February 15, 2026. Environment Canada has forecasted between 5 and 10 centimetres of snow overnight, which will likely result in slippery roads and sidewalks across the community.

According to Environment Canada, winds will shift to the northeast at 30 kilometres per hour around midnight, with gusts reaching up to 50 kilometres per hour. These conditions are expected to reduce visibility and may cause disruptions for travel and outdoor work.

While the forecasted low of -20°C is actually warmer than the seasonal average, the wind chill is expected to reach -33°C. Information from the wind chill index shows that at these levels, frostbite can develop on exposed skin within 10 to 30 minutes.

The storm could also impact operations at the Churchill Airport or on the rail line. Residents are encouraged to stay indoors when possible and check their home heating systems, as an additional 2 to 4 centimetres of snow is expected on Monday.
