Collingwood, ON — The Town of Collingwood has scheduled a temporary closure of Hurontario Street at Sixth Street to begin December 18, 2025, to allow utility relocation and watermain preparation work related to Phase 1 of the Sixth Street Reconstruction Project. Daytime work is expected to take place weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; occasional overnight operations may be required for snow clearing or emergency repairs.

Phase 1 of the Sixth Street Reconstruction includes utility relocations and watermain upgrades at the Hurontario and Sixth Streets intersection and supports the larger Hurontario Street Reconstruction (Hume to Cameron/Collins) master plan for downtown Collingwood. The Town’s planning brief lists December 18, 2025 as the notice date; the Town’s ‘2025 Planned Road Works and Infrastructure Projects’ page (March 11, 2025) notes that utility relocates will be initiated in late 2025 and that Phase 1 construction is scheduled for 2026. A specific public closure notice URL dated December 18, 2025 was not located in the Town’s published news notices during verification.

Traffic will be detoured via Pine Street and Ste. Marie Street. Colltrans routes — including Crosstown and the East and West routes — are expected to be detoured and may bypass several downtown stops; riders should consult Colltrans and the Town’s construction/roads pages for the latest detour details and schedules. The timing of the work occurs during the holiday season, and the Downtown Collingwood BIA has been advised that shoppers may experience delays during the peak Christmas period.

Emergency vehicles will maintain access to Collingwood General and Marine Hospital throughout the project. The Town also reminds residents that overnight parking restrictions (1:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.) remain in effect to facilitate winter maintenance and snow clearing. Motorists should follow posted signage and allow extra time when travelling downtown.
