The County of Simcoe Paramedic Services is recruiting Advanced Care Paramedics (ACP) and Primary Care Paramedics (PCP) as part of a multi‑year hiring push. Current job postings are open through January 30, 2026, and the recruitment is intended to help staff a new 12‑hour ambulance planned for Collingwood and to address a projected 10–12% annual increase in call volume, according to county planning documents.
County officials say the hiring forms part of a long‑term plan to keep pace with rapid population growth across the region. Paramedics moved into a new $4.2‑million, five‑bay station at 169 St. Paul Street in Collingwood in late 2025, a facility the county says will provide room for growth and to stage spare vehicles.
At least four additional full‑time paramedic positions are expected to be required to operate Collingwood’s additional 12‑hour ambulance, which will supplement the town’s existing 24‑hour ambulance service. Deputy Chief Shane Smith has said approximately 35 paramedics are based out of the Collingwood station and respond to more than 3,000 calls a year in the community.
The County’s 2025 budget, approved by council in November 2024, includes funding allocations to support paramedic service growth. County and union officials have said hiring more staff should help reduce so‑called ‘code reds’—periods when no ambulances are available to respond to 911 calls—and decrease the time paramedics spend waiting at hospitals so a vehicle is more often ready to answer emergency calls.
Applicants for the ACP and PCP streams must apply through the County’s career portal. The recruitment process includes written assessments, patient‑care simulation evaluations and a physical assessment (the county lists OPAAT as an accepted physical test), along with standard documentation and certification requirements.
