The County of Simcoe has lowered flags to half-mast at its buildings in Collingwood, Ontario, to honour the victims of a tragedy in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. Residents will notice flags lowered at local sites including the Sunset Manor long-term care home and the paramedic station on High Street.

This regional act of mourning follows a shooting that occurred on February 10, 2026. The incident resulted in the deaths of 10 people, including five students and one educator, and is being recognized across the country as a major national tragedy.

The flags are expected to remain at half-mast until sunset on February 17, 2026. This seven-day tribute follows a federal directive intended to show support for the victims and their families in the remote British Columbia community.

The Warden of the County of Simcoe issued the order for all municipal facilities across the region to participate. This gesture is a standard part of the county protocol to mark events of significant national loss and grief.
