The Simcoe Street Theatre in downtown Collingwood, Ontario, will host a performance titled This Is My Vulva on May 3, 2026, at 3:00 PM. The event features twelve women sharing personal stories about their bodies through a mix of intimate storytelling and contemporary dance.
Created by artist and educator Fran Bouwman, who founded the initiative Viva la Flying Vulva, the production aims to encourage conversations about body literacy and self-worth. The stories shared in the performance are interpreted through movement by professional dancers Catherine Lafond and Jodi Behan. Bouwman, who works as a curriculum specialist at the Collingwood-based charity Elephant Thoughts Educational Outreach, also participates in the show to provide historical and cultural context between the dance pieces.
The performance first premiered in March 2026 at Resonance Collingwood, a local venue that focuses on inclusive and community-oriented arts experiences. The show explores the personal relationships women have with their bodies, addressing themes such as bodily autonomy, shame, and self-worth. Tickets for the upcoming production at the 99-seat theatre on 65 Simcoe Street are $30, and the event is open to people of all ages and genders.
