Collingwood, Ontario, is bracing for difficult travel on Boxing Day (Dec. 26, 2024) after forecasters flagged the region for “snow, ice impacts.” The Weather Network and Environment Canada warn a mix of heavy snow and freezing rain could make roads slippery just as holiday traffic peaks.
Environment Canada and The Weather Network forecast about 5–15 centimetres of snow beginning late on Christmas night (Dec. 25), shifting to freezing rain and ice pellets by midday on Boxing Day. Temperatures near freezing could allow ice to glaze roads and sidewalks across Collingwood and The Blue Mountains.
The Ontario Provincial Police and Town of Collingwood crews are preparing for hazards on major routes such as Highway 26 and Collingwood’s Airport Road. Town Public Works says it will follow its standard priority system, clearing arterial and collector roads first, then residential streets and priority sidewalks around schools and medical facilities.
Colltrans may suspend some bus routes if conditions worsen; drivers are advised to allow extra time or delay non-essential trips. Blue Mountain Resort warns that freezing rain can affect lift operations and parking-lot safety, and guests should be prepared for possible delays or closures.
Residents and visitors are advised to monitor forecasts from Environment Canada and local advisories from the Town of Collingwood, OPP, Colltrans and Blue Mountain Resort on the morning of Dec. 26 for live updates and any service or road closures.
