The Capital Regional District has officially set aside a piece of land in Colwood, British Columbia, to be used as a public road for the new Galloping Goose bridge. This legal change, known as a road dedication, confirms the area is public property and connects the trail system to local streets.
While the notice appeared online in February 2026, the change was originally filed on September 14, 2025. This move is a final step for the construction of the Galloping Goose Regional Trail Pedestrian and Cycling Bridge, which is expected to open in March 2026.
The specific land is located near the intersection of the Island Highway, Wale Road, and Belmont Road. Neighbours and business owners near these streets may see changes to property boundaries or how they access the road now that the land is officially public.
According to the City of Colwood, the new bridge will provide a safer way for people walking and cycling to cross the busy highway. The project has a total budget of approximately $6.3 million, supported by a $3.6-million infrastructure grant, and is part of a regional plan to widen the trail so it is easier for more people to use.
