A new family-friendly exhibition celebrating the animal kingdom is coming to Colwood this February, accompanied by hands-on workshops for residents looking to explore their own creativity. The Goldfinch Arts Centre will host “Furred, Feathered and Scaled” from February 5 to March 1, 2026, showcasing works by local artists that explore the diverse textures and lives of animals.
The exhibition, presented by the Arts & Culture Colwood Society, will hold a public opening reception on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Admission to the gallery at 170 Goldfinch Road is free. The show offers a convenient cultural outing for West Shore families, with gallery hours running Thursday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
Beyond the visual displays, the centre is using the exhibition as a backdrop for active learning. The society has scheduled concurrent workshops that allow participants to create art while surrounded by the animal-themed collection. Notable sessions include:
-
Dare to Paint with Oils: A two-part workshop with artist Deborah Czernecky on February 4 and 5, designed to introduce beginners to oil painting techniques.
-
Valentine’s Printmaking Workshop: A morning session on February 7 with Lucia Volker, where attendees can learn linoleum block carving to create custom cards.
These educational offerings align with the society’s mission to foster community connection through diverse cultural experiences. Local educators are also encouraged to view the exhibition as a resource; the themes of animal habitats and biological features fit well with British Columbia’s Arts Education and Science curriculum for elementary and middle school students.
While the full roster of participating artists has not been released publicly, the exhibition is expected to feature a variety of mediums. Teachers and group leaders interested in arranging visits or requesting educational resources should contact the society directly at info@artsandculturecolwood.ca.
Residents can find more details on the exhibition and register for the accompanying workshops through the Arts & Culture Colwood Society events calendar.
