The Roncalli Central High School U17 girls volleyball team brought a provincial championship home to Conception Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, after winning every game they played last weekend. The team, known as the Cardinals, took first place in a high-level provincial tournament held in Clarenville on February 2, 2026.
The team from Roncalli Central High finished the competition with a perfect record of six wins and no losses. In the final game, they secured the trophy by winning two straight sets with scores of 25-19 and 25-21.
Coaches said the victory was possible because the group has played together since junior high. This specific tournament, organized by the provincial volleyball association, is a competitive division for schools with smaller student populations that have high-skill programs.
The win marks a major milestone for the school’s sports program after several years of growth. Students and staff plan to hold a celebratory rally at the school in Avondale on February 8, 2026, where the team will officially hang their new championship banner.
