The City of Corner Brook is launching a volunteer recruitment campaign on January 29, 2026, seeking about 500 volunteers to help run the 2026 Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games. The weeklong Games are scheduled for August 8–15, 2026 and are expected to bring more than 1,600 athletes, coaches and managers to Corner Brook and the surrounding area.
Residents can sign up for a range of roles — from serving food and sport-specific officiating to medical support and logistics — through the official NL Games portal (nlgames.ca) or the City of Corner Brook website. Applicants will be required to follow a Code of Conduct and may need to undergo a background check depending on the role.
The 2026 event marks the 50th anniversary of the NL Summer Games: the multi-sport format was first hosted jointly by Corner Brook and Stephenville in 1976, and organizers are promoting the 2026 Games as a homecoming. CBC News and local officials have said the event is expected to provide an economic boost to the region.
According to government and local planning materials, the Games will make use of the city’s new regional recreation centre (projected at roughly $25 million) and renovated soccer pitches. While most competitions will take place in Corner Brook, some track and field events will be held in nearby Stephenville because that town has the certified track and specialized equipment required for those events.
