Residents on Facebook in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, are calling for expanded bus hours and more frequent trips to better serve workers and students. While the city upgraded its fleet to larger vehicles in December 2024, Corner Brook Transit currently operates Monday–Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with no weekend service — leaving many without evening or weekend options.

The City of Corner Brook and local reporting say ridership has risen in recent years. CBC reported in November 2024 that some buses were at capacity and that the city purchased two 27-seat buses to replace 15-seat vehicles, expected to enter service in December 2024.

To help residents with mobility needs, the city launched the Corner Brook Transit (CBT) Link on July 2, 2025 — an on-demand, door-to-door service for eligible accessible-transit users that requires registration. Community members are now asking for similar flexibility in regular evening and weekend service.

Councillor Charles Pender told BayFM on Sept. 9, 2025, that the city is seeing positive growth in ridership and revenue. The provincial government announced a Corner Brook bus-pass pilot on Jan. 31, 2025; that release specified $120,000 for the Corner Brook pilot as part of wider bus-pass initiatives.

Local residents have proposed adding loops through high-traffic areas and converting fixed routes into more frequent loops during peak hours, as well as extending service into evenings and weekends to attract more riders. The city completed an accessibility study in 2024 and is considering recommendations and pilot projects; reporters should confirm with council whether any formal ‘Phase 2’ pilots (such as extended evening or weekend service) have been approved or funded.
