The City of Cornwall and the Agape Centre have extended the operations of the community’s overnight warming centre until April 10, 2026. This service provides a safe, indoor space for those in need during the cold spring nights, continuing a partnership that marks its second year of operation.
Located at 40 Fifth St. West, the warming centre operates nightly from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, regardless of the outdoor temperature. The centre recorded 110 individual visits during January 2026, highlighting the ongoing need for this space within the community.
Cornwall currently does not have a permanent homeless shelter, leading the city to rely on a mix of crisis beds, transitional housing, and these temporary warming centres. While the city continues to focus on longer-term projects, such as the upcoming Massey Commons which will provide 22 affordable apartments this summer, immediate support remains a priority. Housing services staff continue to engage daily with unhoused residents to provide wellness checks and connect people with available resources like the 30-bed transitional housing site at Parisen Manor.
The warming centre, hosted in the Agape Centre‘s Community Kitchen space, remains a critical component of the local response to homelessness as the municipality balances immediate crisis needs with future housing plans.
