On February 25, 2026, the Cornwall Police Service arrested a 39-year-old man at the local courthouse in Cornwall, Ontario, for not following rules previously set by a judge.
Officers took the man into custody because of two active warrants for his arrest. These warrants involved five charges related to breaking the conditions of a court order that had been put in place during a domestic violence investigation in May 2025.
Police say the man allegedly violated his court-ordered rules by contacting a former partner. He is also accused of failing to notify the court or his probation officer about a change in his home address.
The man was kept in a cell to wait for a bail hearing. This arrest is part of a continued effort by local police to ensure that residents are following the safety rules given to them by the court system.
Police Chief Shawna Spowart, who is retiring at the end of 2026, has directed the department to focus on high-risk cases and outstanding warrants. The service is currently using a recent budget increase to help officers monitor these types of court orders to keep the community safe.
