The Cornwall Police Service arrested a 16-year-old on Jan. 26, 2026, after the youth failed to appear for a scheduled court proceeding in Cornwall, Ontario, the CPS said in a media release on Jan. 27, 2026. The youth’s identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police took the teenager into custody on the strength of an outstanding warrant. The arrest comes amid a series of ‘fail to attend’ and ‘fail to comply’ cases reported by the Cornwall Police Service during January 2026.

Local reporting in The Seeker’s police blotter noted multiple warrant- and ‘fail to attend’ entries in early January 2026. ‘Fail to attend’ and ‘fail to comply’ charges generally arise when a person does not attend a scheduled court appearance or does not comply with court-ordered conditions.

Families who need help navigating the youth-justice system can contact Youth Justice Services — the provincial Youth Justice/Probation office administered by the Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services — which provides supervision, case management and related supports for youth involved with the law in the Cornwall/Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry area.

Local teenagers and their parents can also find mental-health and community support through the Cornwall & SDG Youth Wellness Hub, which offers integrated mental-health, addiction, primary-care and youth-support services in Cornwall and outreach in Alexandria.
