Environment Canada has issued a weather advisory for the Rural Municipality of Dauphin, Manitoba, warning of widespread blowing snow and near-zero visibility on February 27, 2026. This warning covers the community and surrounding areas like Sifton and Valley River, where strong wind gusts are making travel hazardous for the morning commute.
Forecasters expect wind gusts to reach between 60 and 80 kilometres per hour throughout the day. Conditions at the Dauphin Airport already showed light snow and winds gusting up to 68 kilometres per hour early Friday morning.
The Mountain View School Division has policies in place to cancel school bus services when poor visibility makes driving dangerous for students. Local officials are also advising residents to postpone any travel that is not essential, as major routes like Highway 20 may face closures due to the weather.
Residents are also being warned of potential short power outages caused by the high winds and dropping temperatures. Beyond travel concerns, local authorities are monitoring how this late winter snow will affect water levels at Dauphin Lake, which are managed by the Mossy River Dam to help prevent spring flooding.
