On December 10, 2025, Lt. Colonel Barker V.C. School in Dauphin, Manitoba, unveiled a new inclusive playground on its southern field at 1516 Bond Street, replacing aging structures with modern equipment designed for Kindergarten to Grade 5 students.
The play area includes climbing structures, sensory play elements and accessible surfacing designed to cushion falls. The installation was designed to meet CSA Z614:20 safety standards and is subject to inspection and oversight by Mountain View School Division staff.
Funding for the project combined a provincial grant from the From the Ground Up – Safe Healthy Communities for ALL program, divisional capital funds and Parent Advisory Council fundraising events such as community pizza nights and local business sponsorships.
School officials say the new playground will enhance recess activities and serve as an outdoor classroom for Physical Education lessons focused on gross motor skills and teamwork. The inclusive design aims to ensure all approximately 225 students, including those with mobility or sensory needs, can play and learn together.
