The Rural Municipality of Dauphin in Manitoba says the Sifton Transfer Station west of Sifton will close on December 31, affecting residents in the northern and eastern parts of the municipality who rely on it for household waste and recycling drop-off.

During the annual holiday closure from December 24 at noon until January 5, the RM office and shop will be closed, and there will be no waste drop-off at Sifton. The RM’s website reminds residents that each household can dispose of up to two bags of garbage for free per week at alternative sites.

Residents can use the City of Dauphin Waste Disposal Site on Road 147N. Winter hours from December 2 are Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Tuesday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It is closed on Sundays. Fees apply for extra bags, construction debris or large items, but recycling and compost are accepted free.

The RM of Dauphin Municipal Office parking lot on Highway 20A in East Dauphin operates a small transfer station on Fridays from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. If a Friday falls on a holiday, the station opens on the preceding Thursday.

Recycling containers are also available around the clock at the RM office parking lot, Dauphin Airport and Valley River Community Hall for paper, plastic, glass and metal.
