The Yukon government confirmed on February 15, 2026, that every wildfire in the Dawson fire district, Yukon, has been extinguished. This announcement means there are currently no active fires, evacuation alerts, or travel restrictions in the area.
According to Yukon Government Emergency Measures, the final fires to be put out included the Cassiar Creek blaze. This specific fire grew to 2,294 hectares before it was officially declared out, as noted by Yukon Wildland Fire Management.
The 2025 fire season was busy for the region, with more than 30 active fires burning during the busiest part of the summer. Officials previously held a mid-season briefing to discuss the threats facing the community at that time.
Residents in West Dawson and Sunnydale saw crews set up protective measures like pumps and sprinklers to protect homes and property last year. With all fires now out, local conditions have stabilized and smoke levels have dropped.
Officials monitored the area throughout the winter using an Off-Season Wildfires Hub to watch for fires that might smoulder under the snow. The government will only provide new updates if the situation changes or new fires start.
