The City of Dawson has posted a new announcement for the Dredge Pond II Subdivision on its homepage and Local Notices page, bringing a long-planned east side residential project back into the public eye on August 3, 2026. The subdivision would add 40 country residential lots for about 88 people on 143 hectares of vacant Commissioner’s Land, located 8 km east of downtown Dawson City along the Klondike River.
Roughly half of the developable area is set aside as open space for recreation, habitat, and flood protection. Less than a quarter is reserved for heritage use and protection of dredge tailings, cultural landscape, and heritage resources. The Dredge Pond II Master Plan, prepared by consulting firm 3Pikas, was based on community engagement in 2022 and includes geotechnical, environmental, hydrology, flood, and heritage assessments.
Dawson City council endorsed the master plan in January 2024 and authorized the CAO to release a response to Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in regarding the project. The new posting signals continued momentum for a development that aims to ease the community’s housing pressure. A 2024 report using 2021 census data found 175 Dawson City households, 24 percent of the total, were in core housing need, well above the Yukon average of 13 percent and the national average of 10 percent.
The same day, the City of Dawson posted a notice for Subdivision Application 26-042 alongside the Dredge Pond II announcement. Residents looking for details on lot availability or construction timelines can monitor the City of Dawson notices page or contact City Office directly.
