The City of Dawson is holding a public meeting on February 9, 2026, to hear from residents about how the community should spend its money in the coming year. This 12:00 p.m. (noon) session will be held at the Dawson City Town Hall (Council Chambers) and is the launch of the public consultation on the 2026 Provisional Budget. The 2026 draft budget includes funding proposals for essential services such as water and sewer upgrades, and for community health and recreation programs in Dawson City, Yukon.

Local leaders are asking for feedback on a proposed 4.5 per cent property tax increase and on potential changes to utility fees. The budget draft also includes funding for fixing roads and water lines damaged by shifting ground associated with permafrost degradation, as well as support for seasonal housing initiatives and local recreation.

People may speak for three minutes during the meeting in person at the Council Chambers or join the hybrid broadcast via the city’s official Facebook page and Zoom. Under the Yukon Municipal Act and the city’s public-budget process, public consultation is a required element of the municipal budget cycle and is intended to keep local budget decisions transparent to taxpayers.

The city is managing a gap in its project funds driven by rising construction-material costs and the need to strengthen infrastructure; the budget consultation materials outline the pressure this places on capital programs. The Association of Yukon Communities has also warned that recent changes in territorial grant programs and funding formulas are affecting how municipalities build their budgets in 2026.

For those who cannot attend the noon meeting today, the city is accepting written comments until February 16, 2026. This feedback will be considered by the Mayor and council as they decide whether to proceed with the current spending plan or to make adjustments to contain costs.
