Statistics Canada is hiring local enumerator and crew leader positions in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, as part of a national recruitment drive for roughly 32,000 census jobs. The agency posted a national news release on January 6, 2026. Enumerators are paid $25.87 per hour (crew leaders $31.32 per hour), and these roles involve collecting population and housing information used to inform planning and funding for services such as health care, policing and roads.

The agency is hiring for short-term census roles, including enumerators (non-supervisory) and crew leaders (supervisory). Crew leaders’ employment generally runs from March 2026 to July 2026, while enumerators are generally employed from May 2026 to July 2026, depending on position and location. Both roles involve in-person, door-to-door collection of questionnaires; enumerators may also help residents complete forms to ensure the information is accurate.

Local organizations such as the South Peace Community Resources Society say an accurate count is vital for social services in the region. Officials and analysts have long warned that undercounts in northern BC communities can lead to reduced per-capita funding for essential programs. The City of Dawson Creek also uses census data to inform planning for housing, infrastructure and business development.

To apply, candidates must meet eligibility requirements and complete the hiring steps (initial screening, reference checks, interview for crew leaders where applicable, and a security screening). Applications are submitted through the official Census website; the online application window runs through July 31, 2026, and Statistics Canada encourages early applications to secure placement in local zones.
