Residents of Dawson Creek are invited to learn more about local medical services at the 2nd Annual South Peace Primary Care Network Health Expo. The event will take place on May 23, 2026, at the Ovintiv Events Centre from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The health expo is organized by the South Peace Primary Care Network, a partnership involving the South Peace Division of Family Practice, Northern Health, and the First Nations Health Authority. The initiative aims to connect community members in Dawson Creek, Chetwynd, and Tumbler Ridge with available health resources and provide information on how local services are evolving.
This year’s event arrives as the region continues to address healthcare challenges. Currently, approximately 6,500 patients in the South Peace region do not have a family doctor. To help expand access to care, the City of Dawson Creek purchased the former Eljen Medical Clinic in July 2024 for $1.7 million, converting the space into a primary care hub now known as The Rimrock Health Centre.
The network is working toward a service plan approved by the Ministry of Health in October 2024, which aims to add 21 new healthcare professionals, including physicians and nurses, to the region. Additionally, construction of the new Dawson Creek and District Hospital is progressing ahead of its original timeline, with substantial completion now expected by September 29, 2026.
