High school–age teens in Dawson Creek, B.C., have a new opportunity to travel and earn certification by training as sports officials for the 2026 BC Winter Games. The Youth & Young Officials Program is recruiting youth aged 14–17 to learn how to help run speed skating events.
Training follows Speed Skating BC’s Provincial Level 1 Officials curriculum and will be delivered locally through the Dawson Creek Speed Skating Club at rinks such as the Kin Arena and Memorial Arena, with a mix of online lessons and hands‑on practicum where students shadow experienced officials during local races.
Selected participants who complete the training will be eligible for a fully funded trip to serve as officials at the BC Winter Games in Trail‑Rossland, scheduled for Feb. 19–22, 2026. Speed Skating BC says the program helps youth build leadership skills and provides a credential that can strengthen future university or bursary applications.
The Youth & Young Officials Program is run by Speed Skating BC in partnership with the BC Games Society to increase volunteerism and skilled leadership across the province. Interested applicants should apply through Speed Skating BC; the application deadline for the 2026 Trail‑Rossland cycle is Aug. 31, 2025 (see Speed Skating BC resources for the specific 2026 application form).
