The City of Dawson Creek has updated its facility allocation process to help community groups manage their bookings for local recreation spaces throughout the upcoming season. The new Facility Allocation Schedule, which was posted on April 13, 2026, provides clear deadlines for securing time at city arenas, pools, and sports fields.
Under the updated procedures, organizations must follow a specific booking process. Groups are first required to make a tentative booking via email or by calling the city at 250-784-3604. Once a spot is tentatively held, groups must obtain $5 million in liability insurance through the Municipal Insurance Association of BC event portal, ensuring the city is listed as an additional insured party. After the insurance information is received, city staff will contact the group to finalize the reservation.
The city uses a tiered priority system to manage these requests, ensuring that community services and youth programs have reliable access to facilities. The priority list places city programs and services first, followed by user group sporting and community events, youth non-profit organizations, and adult non-profit organizations. Schools and commercial organizations follow in the priority ranking.
This system applies to several municipal locations, including the Memorial Arena, Kin Arena, Ovintiv Events Centre, Kenn Borek Aquatic Centre, and various outdoor fields like the Harry Morrow ball diamonds and Paul Loiselle soccer fields. Notably, the Kin Arena is currently undergoing a trial period as an indoor sports floor, moving away from its traditional exclusive use as an ice arena.
Booking deadlines vary by season. Requests for fall and winter ice for the 2026-2027 season are due between April 30 and July 31, 2026, while requests for the 2026 fall season must be submitted between June 15 and June 30, 2026. Rental rates for sports fields are also available, with costs tiered by organization type, ranging from $20.54 per hour for youth non-profits to $164.31 per hour for commercial organizations.
