Dawson Creek, British Columbia, has been named a top destination for international sports after winning a major award on March 11, 2026. The city was given the International Sport Event of the Year award for hosting the 2025 Para Cup at the Ovintiv Events Centre.
The award was handed out by Sport Tourism Canada at a ceremony held in Mississauga. The city won in a category created for international events that run on a budget of less than $2 million.
Mayor Darcy Dober said the achievement was made possible by dedicated local volunteers and the community’s ability to work with national organizations like Hockey Canada. The 2025 Para Cup brought hockey players from around the world to the region to compete at a high level.
This recognition is expected to help the city attract more national and international athletic competitions in the future. By proving it can successfully run these events, the city has strengthened its reputation as a premier spot for major sports.
