Dawson Creek RCMP have arrested a woman after a stabbing at a home on 15th Street left one person injured. Police say the incident happened on June 29, 2026, and that the victim is expected to recover.
Officers were called to a residence in the 9600 block of 15th Street just before 11 a.m. on Monday. They found the victim at the property with a stab wound to the lower torso. The person was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries that are not life-threatening.
Vicki Ominayak was taken into custody and has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and aggravated assault. According to court records, the charges were laid the same day. Police say she remains in custody while the investigation continues.
On the same day, RCMP also responded to a separate assault with a weapon around 3:43 p.m. in the 800 block of 105th Avenue. A woman was reportedly assaulted by two suspects and suffered minor injuries. She was checked at the hospital and released immediately. No arrests have been announced in that case.
The incidents come as Dawson Creek continues work to address violent crime. RCMP Staff Sergeant Rob Hughes recently told city council that homicides, shootings, and stabbings in the community dropped dramatically in 2025 compared to the year before, even though overall crime numbers were slightly up.
