Northern Health is currently recruiting for dozens of health care positions in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, as the community prepares for the opening of the new Dawson Creek & District Hospital in the spring of 2027. The Northern Health Authority is seeking to fill a variety of roles to staff the larger facility, which will feature 70 beds and an expanded emergency department with 15 treatment spaces.
Active job postings in May 2026 include pharmacists with a salary range of $54.49 to $68.10 per hour, occupational therapists earning between $45.15 and $56.17 per hour, and cardiology technologists at $37.42 to $46.74 per hour. Other openings include recreation program coordinators at $33.83 per hour and various community health worker positions. To support these efforts, the health authority offers a Rural and Remote Recruitment Incentive, providing up to $30,000 for eligible positions that include a two-year return of service, provided the contract is signed by September 30, 2026.
This recruitment push follows a period of staffing challenges in the region, which saw the current emergency department experience an overnight closure due to staff shortages as recently as March 23-24, 2026. Byron Stewart, who has served as the Recruitment and Retention Ambassador for Northeast B.C. since 2021, is playing a central role in attracting new professionals. Additionally, Northern Health recently engaged local youth through the ‘Adventures in Health Care 2026: Peace Region’ program, which hosted 36 high school students in April to encourage future interest in medical careers.
The new $590 million hospital project is a partnership between the provincial government and the Peace River Regional Hospital District, which contributed $177 million. Construction has progressed ahead of schedule, with the facility now expected to reach substantial completion on September 29, 2026.
