Three men are facing first-degree murder charges following a two-year investigation into the death of a man on New Year’s Eve in 2023 in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. The Dawson Creek RCMP announced the charges against Tanner Allan Murray, Robert James Sinclair, and Benjamin James Elliott Touchette in early February 2026.
The investigation involves the death of 37-year-old Robert Eric Douglas Girbav, who was found inside a vehicle at the corner of 17th Street and 116th Avenue. According to the RCMP, investigators believe that the suspects and the victim knew each other before the incident.
The BC RCMP North District Major Crime Unit led the investigation and coordinated the arrests on January 31, 2026. All three men were already in police custody for unrelated legal matters when the murder charges were approved.
Staff Sgt. Rob Hughes of the Dawson Creek RCMP called the charges a “huge win” for the police and the community. Officers are hopeful that this update will encourage more witnesses to share information about other ongoing cases in the area.
