The Elliot Lake Public Library is offering free one-on-one help each Tuesday afternoon to guide patrons through downloading eBooks and audiobooks on their smartphones, tablets or library eReaders. Tech Tuesdays runs from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. every week at the Elliot Lake Public Library in Pearson Plaza (40 Hillside Dr. S., Elliot Lake), and spots are available by registering in advance for a 30-minute session.
Patrons can bring their own devices or borrow a Kobo Glo eReader from the library. Staff walk visitors step by step through the library’s OverDrive service and provide links to additional tutorials on the library’s eBooks and audiobooks page for guidance at home. The program page notes that each person may book one appointment per month to ensure wide access.
The library’s program page states, “Adults and seniors can get help downloading audiobooks and eBooks during Tech Tuesdays.” Pat McGurk is the Chief Librarian at the Elliot Lake Public Library; she has previously described the new library as ‘community driven’ and designed to include gathering space for residents.
The program builds on the library’s recovery from past displacements and temporary closures related to roof repairs, and it aligns with Elliot Lake’s longstanding focus on services for retirees and seniors. Wi‑Fi at the library is free; internet access through library computers is available for a small fee of $1 per session. Tech Tuesdays aim to make the city’s growing digital collection more accessible to older and less tech‑savvy residents.
To register for Tech Tuesdays or to confirm current details, patrons should contact the library circulation desk in person or by phone.
