Environment Canada cancelled a Special Weather Statement for Elliot Lake and the nearby Ranger Lake area at 7:38 AM ET on February 11, 2026, after a predicted heavy snowstorm moved away from the region. The agency had originally warned residents to expect between 7 and 12 cm of snow; the updated forecast now calls for intermittent flurries and light snow.

The latest local forecast (updated at 7:38 AM ET by Environment Canada) indicates that while the heavy snow threat has passed, the area will still face west-northwest winds with gusts reaching up to 45 km/h. Environment Canada warns these winds can cause blowing snow and reduced visibility, creating hazardous conditions for morning commuters.

Drivers using Highway 108 and local municipal roads should be careful, as the combination of wind and light snow can lead to sudden whiteouts. City of Elliot Lake public works crews remain on maintenance alert to handle any slippery patches and freezing temperatures that may impact travel through the morning.

The weather agency uses a Special Weather Statement to inform the public about unusual weather that does not meet the threshold for a formal warning (see Environment and Climate Change Canada criteria). Even though the Special Weather Statement has been cancelled, travelers are encouraged to check Ontario 511 for the latest road updates and to slow down in winter condition.
