The City of Elliot Lake, Ontario, began installing new security cameras in the downtown core during the week of February 10, 2026. This project is designed to help police with their investigations and to stop people from damaging property or stealing from local stores.

The work is being paid for through the Ontario security camera grant program. These cameras record video for the Ontario Provincial Police to use as evidence after a crime happens, rather than being watched live by staff.

Equipment is being set up in several busy spots, including Elizabeth Walk, Ontario Avenue, and city-owned parking lots. The Ministry of the Solicitor General provided the funding to give officers more tools to help solve crimes in the community.

The city expects to finish the installation by the end of February 2026. People walking or parking downtown should experience very little disruption while the cameras are being put in place.

This new system is separate from the older cameras used at the boat launch and fire lookout, which only monitor weather and scenery for tourists. These new security cameras will focus on providing clear video that can be used in court to hold people accountable for criminal activity.
