The Township of Centre Wellington held a public meeting in late January 2026 to share plans for new water and sewage projects that could impact residents in Erin, Ontario. This session was the second stage of a long-term study to decide where to build new wells and run sewer pipes to support a population that is expected to double by 2051.

The meeting took place at the Elora Community Centre and online through Connect CW. Engineering experts showed exactly where they want to put new infrastructure, which is important for people living near the town borders. These new well sites or pipe routes could affect local property and the shared water supply used by both communities.

Infrastructure leaders say the upgrades are necessary to keep the taps running and protect the environment as more houses are built. Recent reports from local news suggest these water projects could cost nearly $200 million. Without these changes, officials warn that some local construction projects might have to stop because the current sewage plants are almost full.

The Town of Erin is also finishing its own major wastewater plant in 2026, and both towns are working to manage the same underground water sources. Residents can still review the study documents on the Township of Centre Wellington website. Community members can submit their feedback and questions before the final plan goes to the local council for approval this spring.
