Residents in Erin, Ontario, are being asked to stay off the roads as blowing snow and extreme cold move into the area on Friday afternoon, Feb. 6, 2026. Environment Canada has issued a Blowing Snow Advisory and an Extreme Cold Warning. Wind gusts up to about 80 km/h are expected, and Environment Canada warns visibility may be reduced to near zero, making travel hazardous through Saturday morning.

Strong winds are expected to pick up loose snow from open fields and blow it across rural routes, including County Road 124, County Road 24 and County Road 22. Wellington County Emergency Services and the county roads department warn these conditions make travel high‑risk and urge people to avoid non-essential travel.

Temperatures are forecast to fall overnight with wind chills reaching about −34°C. Health Canada notes that the risk of frostbite and other cold-related health effects increases at wind chill values below −27°C; public-health guidance and wind‑chill charts indicate that at wind chills near −34 to −35°C uncovered skin can freeze in on the order of 10 minutes. Local emergency services are asking people to stay indoors to avoid the risk of being stranded in a vehicle during the deep freeze.

The Town of Erin says plow operations may need to be adjusted or suspended in whiteout conditions because operators cannot always see the road safely. Located on higher ground, Erin can experience stronger winds and harsher winter weather than some surrounding areas. Residents should prepare for hazardous conditions to persist through the early hours of Saturday and follow updates from Environment Canada and local authorities.
