The staff and students at Eskasoni Elementary and Middle School in Eskasoni, Nova Scotia, are thanking local businesses and residents for their donations following a successful online auction that ran from late January into early February 2026. The community fundraiser was held to raise money for school programs, cultural field trips and Mi’kmaq language immersion classes.
According to a statement from Eskasoni Elementary and Middle School (and the Eskasoni School Board), the auction included many donated items such as local business vouchers and handmade Mi’kmaq crafts, including beadwork and basketry. The school said the support from the community ensures that students have the specific resources they need to thrive both in the classroom and in their local culture.
In a statement shared on the school’s official social media page on Feb. 9–10, 2026, the school also offered condolences to the family of Donelda “Doll” Darlene Clements, 67, a retired teacher and longtime educator in the region who died on Jan. 23, 2026.
Organizers said the auction helped strengthen the bond between the school and the community during a time of both celebration and mourning. The school has indicated that auction items have been distributed and that a final tally of the money raised will be presented to the public at an upcoming community meeting.
