The County of Huron is moving forward with plans to repair Boundary Bridge 14 near Exeter, Ontario, to ensure the crossing stays safe for local drivers and farmers. Officials opened the tendering (bidding) process for the work on February 5, 2026, as part of a larger effort to keep local infrastructure in good condition.
The project is expected to include structural repairs such as concrete rehabilitation, waterproofing and deck reinforcement to address aging components and strengthen the crossing to carry heavy agricultural loads. By doing these repairs now, the county hopes to avoid putting weight limits on the bridge, which would force heavy trucks and farm equipment to take long detours through other areas.
Keeping the bridge open is vital for the local economy, particularly for farmers moving heavy tractors and grain trailers during the busy season. Imran Khalid, Director of Public Works for Huron County, has prioritized preventative maintenance to save money and reduce the likelihood the structure will require a full replacement in the future.
The repairs align with the Municipality of South Huron’s 2025 Asset Management Plan and Huron County’s 2026 capital infrastructure work. Boundary Bridge 14 is a County-owned asset, but it is critical to South Huron’s local traffic and agricultural economy. Work on the bridge is expected to be completed during the 2026 construction season, ahead of the autumn harvest.
