On January 27, 2026, Huron County Public Works reported that it had ended the Significant Weather Event declaration affecting Exeter, Ontario, an advisory that had been in place since January 19 because of persistent blowing snow and lake-effect squalls that reduced visibility on Highway 4 and other regional arteries.

The lifting of the advisory clears the way for local businesses and jobseekers to resume more normal routines. The weather had disrupted activities connected to the Exeter Conestoga Jobs Hub — a local jobs partnership associated with Conestoga College’s Talent Hub — during the eight-day event, with travel to interviews and seasonal hiring workshops heavily affected by unsafe road conditions.

Huron County Public Works said the alert was lifted because the snow squalls and extreme cold subsided to a level at which standard road maintenance meets provincial Minimum Maintenance Standards. Local reporting by Exeter Today noted that wind chills were reported to have pushed into the -40s during the peak of the storm.

While the travel advisory has ended, officials continue to urge caution on secondary and side roads where snow drifts may persist. Huron County Public Works indicated crews have returned to standard maintenance activities now that emergency conditions have eased.
