The City of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, announced on February 25, 2026, that it has awarded $9,000 in grants to help host three major sporting and cultural events this year. The funding is designed to help local organizations cover the costs of hosting large events that bring visitors to the community and support local shops and hotels.

The Tourism Hosting Grant Committee awarded $3,000 each to Fort Saskatchewan Ringette, Fort Saskatchewan Youth Basketball, and the Wild Rose Old Tyme Fiddlers Association. These grants focus on events that show off the city’s facilities and attract people from across the province.

The U10 Ringette Championships will take place from March 6-8, 2026, utilizing the Dow Centennial Centre, the Fort Saskatchewan Sportsplex, and the Jubilee Recreation Centre. In the summer, the Wild Rose Old Time Fiddle Festival and Grand North American Old Time Fiddle Championships will be held at the Shell Theatre from July 16-19, 2026.

The city is also supporting the Fort Court Queens Girls Youth 3X3 Basketball Tournament from April 24-25, 2026, which will be held at the Dow Centennial Centre and local schools. Mayor Lisa Makin said these events help show community pride and strengthen the local economy by bringing athletes and musicians to the city.

This funding announcement followed a city council meeting held on February 24, 2026. The grant program is a regular part of how the city helps non-profit groups run sanctioned events that increase the profile of the community.
