The City of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, is hiring eight new permanent, full-time firefighters as part of a significant service expansion funded in the 2026 municipal budget. This growth is designed to help the fire department keep up with the community’s rapid development and ensure emergency crews are always available.

According to the City Council, the new funding allows the department to complete its transition to a 24-hour professional staffing model. Fire Chief Todd Martens is overseeing the transition, which means the city will rely less on part-time or volunteer staff and more on dedicated full-time members to handle emergency calls.

The new positions offer pay ranging from $34.85 to $49.78 per hour. Successful candidates will work out of modern facilities like the Southfort Fire Station, which was built to help emergency crews reach residents faster in expanding areas of the city.

The hiring drive is a direct result of the city’s increasing population and the need for more local public safety services. By adding more full-time staff, the city aims to provide consistent emergency coverage every day of the week for all homes and businesses.
