The City of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, officially started construction on a new swimming pool at the Dow Centennial Centre on March 18, 2026. This project aims to give local families a modern place to swim and play while expanding the city’s recreation options.

Mayor Lisa Makin and representatives from Dow took part in a ceremony to mark the beginning of the 28-month building project. The new facility is designed to be accessible and easy for everyone to use regardless of their needs.

According to the City, the new pool will replace the Harbour Pool, which has served the community since 1982. The current pool is reaching its limits for space and is becoming more expensive to fix and maintain.

The new building will be able to hold about 800 people at once, which is a big jump from the 300-person limit at the old pool. The Fort Saskatchewan City Council approved the project after asking residents for their support during a 2024 census.
