Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, will see light snow end this morning before a significant midweek warm-up brings slushy streets and icy overnight conditions. According to Environment Canada, temperatures are expected to climb to a high of 3 degrees Celsius by February 26, 2026.

While the warmer weather will melt some of the snow, a 60 percent chance of showers on Thursday will be followed by a sharp temperature drop to minus 14 degrees Celsius overnight. This freeze-thaw cycle is expected to create slippery black ice on morning commutes, sidewalks, and bus routes by the end of the week.

Local teams at Fort Saskatchewan Public Works will focus on clearing and sanding main roads first to keep traffic moving. Residents should also remember they are responsible for clearing snow and ice from sidewalks next to their property within 48 hours of a snowfall.

The icy conditions could impact local transportation for students. Elk Island Public Schools may delay or cancel bus services if the roads are determined to be too hazardous for safe travel.
