The Gananoque Curling Club is inviting residents in Gananoque, Ontario, to step onto the ice this weekend for a new program designed specifically for beginners. Starting February 8, 2026, the club will host a Rookie League (1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.) to help locals learn the basics of the sport in a relaxed and social setting. This initiative aims to turn fans watching the winter games on television into active players at their local rink.

The program focuses on teaching essential skills such as delivery (how to slide the stone) and the proper way to sweep. According to the Gananoque Curling Club, the sessions are intended as a relaxed, low-pressure way for people to try a new winter hobby. Each session lasts two hours and includes on-ice instruction followed by a chance to gather with other participants in the club’s lounge (the Warm Room).

Club Manager Jayne Curtis said the league is part of an effort to make the historic facility a hub for all ages. The club was founded in 1867 and celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2017. It works with the Town of Gananoque and other local partners to offer recreation options during the colder months.

While national and international curling events are overseen and promoted by organizations such as Curling Canada, this Rookie League is built for people who want to stay active and meet neighbours. The club hopes the excitement of the 2026 international sports season will encourage more locals to pick up a broom and join the community at their local rink.
