Residents in Gananoque, Ontario, can now use professional crafting tools for free every week at their local library. The sessions take place every Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Gananoque Public Library (100 Park Street).

Visitors have access to specialized cutting machines and commercial heat presses, commonly used to make custom T-shirts, decals and signs. Library staff are available during the sessions to provide basic guidance on the equipment and design software so beginners can start projects.

The service is part of the library’s 2024 6 28 Strategic Plan, which prioritizes innovation and gives the community easier access to modern technology. CEO Deirdre Crichton has described the library’s shift toward skills-building and community creation in coverage of the library’s recent work (see The Brockvilleist).

According to The Brockvilleist and the library’s planning materials, the change is intended to help local hobbyists, students and small business owners who may not be able to afford their own industrial tools. The program is offered at the Gananoque Public Library, 100 Park Street, and is open to local residents (a valid Gananoque Public Library card is required per the library’s program materials).
