Gander, NL — The Town of Gander has announced updated curbside garbage and recycling pickup dates for the 2025–2026 holiday period, posted on its Garbage Collection and Disposal page. Collections that would normally fall on Christmas Day (Thursday, December 25, 2025) and Boxing Day (Friday, December 26, 2025) will now take place on Monday, December 29, 2025, and the pickup for New Year’s Day (Thursday, January 1, 2026) will move to Friday, January 2, 2026, according to the town’s 2025/2026 collection schedule.

Residents should place no more than six clear (transparent) garbage bags or equivalent containers at the curb no earlier than 6:00 a.m. and no later than 8:00 a.m. on the rescheduled collection days — December 29 (for the Dec. 25 and Dec. 26 routes) and January 2 (for the Jan. 1 routes). The town’s rules on bag limits and timing remain in effect, and the same rescheduled dates apply to recyclables that would normally be collected on those holidays; residents whose recycling day falls on Dec. 25 or Dec. 26 should set out recyclables for pickup on Dec. 29, and those whose recycling day falls on Jan. 1 should set out recyclables for pickup on Jan. 2.

The town reminds everyone that household garbage must be in clear bags and must be covered at all times; a metal or plastic container, netting, or a blanket are acceptable methods for cover to prevent animal interference. Residents are also reminded that it is the homeowner’s responsibility to clean up any garbage remaining after curbside collection.

The full 2025/2026 waste calendar and holiday-collection notice are available on the Town of Gander’s Garbage Collection and Disposal page. Residents who miss the adjusted pickups may be able to use the Waste Transfer Station at 34 McCurdy Drive, but the transfer station accepts materials only on scheduled dates and a nominal fee applies. Check the Town’s Garbage Collection and Disposal page and the News & Public Notices for transfer-station dates, fees and holiday hours before planning a trip.
