Teachers from Garden Hill, Manitoba, are invited to a two-day literacy workshop on March 12 and March 13, 2026, to learn new techniques for helping students improve their reading skills. The event is being held in Thompson at a regional sub-office for local Kindergarten to Grade 8 educators.
The Manitoba First Nations Education Resource Centre organized the roundtable to review classroom tools that focus on how children sound out words and understand what they read. Teachers will study the UFLI Foundations program, which provides a step-by-step approach to teaching the building blocks of literacy.
For staff working under the Garden Hill Education Authority, the sessions offer practical lesson plans that can be used immediately in the classroom. These tools are meant to provide direct support for families who want to see their children reach their reading goals more quickly.
This training follows other recent education milestones in the community, such as the graduation of a new group from the Garden Hill Education Assistant Certification Program in early 2026. By bringing these new reading methods to local schools, the community is working to ensure all students have access to the best possible learning resources.
