Community groups in Gimli, Manitoba, will soon be able to apply for grants through the Healthy Together Now program to support projects that help residents stay healthy. The 2026–27 funding is designed to support local initiatives such as fitness classes, community gardens and mental-health programs.
The Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority (IERHA) coordinates the program, which aims to prevent chronic illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease. Local non-profits, schools and community committees can apply for grants to support healthy eating, physical activity and tobacco-prevention efforts (including supports to help people quit smoking).
This year, the program is targeting a 25 per cent increase in reach to include more residents across the region. Past Healthy Together Now projects in Gimli have included Active Aging initiatives to keep seniors active and community gardens to improve access to fresh food.
According to the Healthy Together Now funding guidelines, projects are community-led and planned by local volunteers and organizations, with funding and support provided by regional health authorities and local community-based advisory committees. The exact application opening date for the 2026 cycle has not yet been posted; the fiscal year typically begins on April 1, 2026. Interested groups should monitor the IERHA Community Wellness newsletter or contact their regional Community Facilitator for the official application announcement.
