The 137th Icelandic Festival of Manitoba, known as Islendingadagurinn, is coming to Gimli, Manitoba, from July 31 to August 3, 2026. This annual event is a major landmark for the community that celebrates local heritage and encourages tourism in the region.
The festival is managed by a volunteer-run organization that works to keep Icelandic culture and traditions strong in Canada. While the official theme for the 2026 festivities is traditionally confirmed in the spring, organizers continue to build on the event’s history of cultural storytelling and community connection.
The event is considered a key regional attraction by Travel Manitoba. It is one of the oldest ethnic festivals in North America and serves as an important social and economic event for the Gimli area.
Visitors can expect a variety of traditional food, Viking-themed exhibits, and the selection of the Fjallkona, or Maid of the Mountain. The celebration has been recognized annually since 1890 and remains a highly anticipated part of the summer for local residents.
