On Friday, February 27, 2026, Environment Canada issued a blowing snow advisory for the Rural Municipality of Gimli, Manitoba. The advisory also covers areas including Winnipeg Beach and Arnes as weather conditions make travel difficult.

Wind gusts are expected to reach between 60 and 80 kilometres per hour this morning before gradually diminishing later in the afternoon. These strong winds are picking up recent snow and causing visibility to drop to near zero, making it very hard for drivers to see the road.

Temperatures are falling sharply and are expected to reach -18°C by Friday afternoon. Wind chills will feel even colder, reaching -39°C overnight, which creates a serious risk of frostbite for anyone outside. Health officials typically remind residents to take precautions and check on those who may be vulnerable during such extreme cold.

Travel is considered hazardous and officials are asking people to stay off the roads unless it is absolutely necessary. The blowing snow is expected to impact the afternoon commute and may lead to sudden road closures on local highways, including Highway 8 and Highway 9.

The weather system will start to move out of the area on Friday evening. Conditions are expected to gradually improve from the northwest to the southeast through the evening and into the overnight period.
