Goderich, Ontario, has kicked off planning for its 200th anniversary by forming the 2027 Bicentennial Committee, established on February 24, 2026, to coordinate community celebrations set for June 24–27, 2027. The committee will guide everything from event programming and marketing to fundraising and volunteer recruitment, giving residents a formal way to shape what promises to be the town’s largest civic milestone in decades.
The committee will include five to nine members, including one representative of Goderich Town Council who will primarily serve as a liaison between the Committee and Council and shall not be directly involved in fundraising and implementation activities. The committee will also have staff support from the Town’s Tourism and Community Development Manager and the Administrative Assistant to the Director of Legislative Services/Clerk. Meetings will be held in a hybrid format in the Menesetung Room, Town Hall, and via Zoom.
Over the next three years, the group will develop a detailed Work Plan that covers budget recommendations, marketing campaigns and a volunteer engagement strategy. Volunteer recruitment and citizen appointments are expected to be advertised and pursued throughout 2025 as part of the committee’s mandate to ensure a celebration that appeals to all ages and highlights Goderich’s heritage, including its iconic octagonal Courthouse Square.
Residents interested in joining the committee or learning more about upcoming volunteer roles can review the full committee Terms of Reference and visit the Town’s Careers and Volunteer Opportunities page for details on how to apply.
