Goderich, Ontario residents can now pre-order free native trees to plant on their properties for delivery in Spring 2026. The Town of Goderich posted the program announcement on Jan. 7, 2026, and pre-orders are being taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Town of Goderich is partnering with the Goderich Lions Club (a local service club sponsor) to provide 25 native trees at no cost to local property owners. The saplings are being provided through the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA). Only Goderich residents/property owners are eligible, and each property may receive one tree. The trees are 2 ft potted saplings; available species for 2026 are Sugar Maple, Silver Maple and Sycamore.

Residents must complete the Native Tree pre-order form (available via the Town’s news post/order form) and submit it as instructed on the Town website (email to jclapp@goderich.ca or drop off at the Town Hall front desk). Drop-off at each property will occur during the spring by the Goderich Parks Department (date TBD). Trees will be dropped off at the front yard of each house; the property owner is responsible to plant and maintain the tree. Trees cannot be planted on municipal property.

The initiative is part of Goderich’s long-running reforestation efforts following the devastating F3 tornado in 2011 that destroyed much of the town’s mature canopy. The program’s stated aims include restoring the local tree canopy and promoting biodiversity (including support for native pollinators). Similar tree giveaways in past years have seen strong demand, with available trees often claimed within hours of the announcement.

The Town describes the program as a way to encourage residents to steward their private land. By planting native species on private property, homeowners help support a healthier, greener community.
