The Town of Goderich, Ontario, has announced that the Salt & Harvest Festival will return from September 3 to September 6, 2026. This early update from Goderich Tourism gives residents and visitors advance notice for the event, which celebrates the town’s salt industry and agricultural history. By setting the dates well in advance, organizers hope to make it easier for families to plan their end-of-summer travel and budgets.
The 2026 festival will offer several free activities for families at Courthouse Square and the waterfront, including a petting zoo, wagon rides, and large inflatable play areas. Visitors can also explore a “Salted Market” and see demonstrations from mine rescue teams. To show what happens underground, the event will feature virtual reality mine exhibits and an above-ground salt experience hosted at the Salted Goderich site.
While many parts of the festival are free, some special events will require paid tickets, such as the main concerts, guided tours, and tastings. This mix of programming is made possible through a partnership with Compass Minerals, the operator of the Goderich salt mine — the world’s largest underground salt mine. Since the festival was launched under its current branding in 2023, it has quickly become a major draw for the region, highlighting Goderich’s salt heritage dating to the discovery of rock salt in 1866.
Local businesses are also getting involved through the Downtown Goderich BIA, which will help organize the market and live music. The festival has grown significantly since it was first launched, including winning industry recognition such as Festivals & Events Ontario’s awards for new events and top festivals. Residents can expect more details on specific musical acts and ticket sales as the 2026 date gets closer.
